Hilde Goovaerts wins 5 times the ONK in Hallum
Hilde was born in the small village Zelmst in Belgium. Like most of her class mates at the primary school, she became member of the local inline skating club with the name Reko Roller Club.
Skating became a passion for her probably because she clearly showed immediately her qualities for this sport. In 1993 in the world games she won the 500m sprint. Two years later she won the half marathon in Australia during the world games. Later she won also many European titles in inline skating. |
She participated also in many inline skating races in The Netherlands. There, her Dutch competitors were mostly also participating in marathon skating on artificial ice. The change from inline skates to ice skates was not easy but after some time she got the feeling of it and became member of the female team of the sponsor Stouwdam. There she detected that her specialty was long distance skating. Participating in the “Alternatieve Elfstedentocht” on the Weisensee in Austria was a striking experience for her because of the many people that participated in a race of 200km. She was quite satisfied with her result, skating this distance in 6 hours 40 minutes. She finished there as the 24th female skater.
Her success years started in 2005 when she won for the first time the ONK in Hallum race of 66 km.. This was also the first time that she participated in this race. She repeated this result in 2006 and 2007. In the same year she also won the marathon of Berlin.
Then she skipped one year because she was pregnant of her son Gust. But in 2009 and 2010 she was back again and she won again. The last time she won the finish of the coming star Ireme Schouten. The finish of this last race, can be see on the next video.

With all these successes in the ONK and in Berlin she showed that she was undoubtedly one of the best female long distace skaters. The same can without any doubt be said of Crispijn Ariens.
