Is skating divine?
by Haijo van der Werf
This question I asked myself occasionally. After a marathon race I have seen once in a while two skaters that started a fight. That had nothing to do with God or skating. However if you perform the perfect skating movement especially with wind in the back or with little wind and can increase your speed steadily then this gives at least an extremely pleasant feeling. Even more, it can make you euforic.
Such a feeling you can get only when the skating goes very easily and that happens only after many long training hours. A euphoric feeling one can also realize skating on natural ice. Once Andre Klompmaker said about that: “When you skate you feel as a part of the nature, part of God’s creation. Then you can only say: Thank you God.”
I heartily agree with this. Our life can be so nice and we should realize that more often and be grateful for it.

I strongly agree with Haijo that skating often can create a marvelous feeling when you can glide over the ice without hardly any effort. You can call the feeling you get divine or at least euphoric. I would say it requires a very easy movement, little wind and a very smooth surface to skate on. This often happened to me when I started to skate on the ice of an artificial ice track that was just prepared again.
This raises the question if it is also possible during inline skating? In general the skating surface is less smooth and one has to work harder. Therefore it happened to me only very seldom during inline skating. But it happened when I was skating in a pack and followed with very little effort, using the ice skate movement. I am afraid that it is not possible with the double push.
So my suggestion is: if you want to experience how divine skating can be then you have to go skating on ice.
